Does it take a disaster for Americans to change their habits?

It has been my observation over the past 50 years as a student of history that Americans will not do anything about security until disaster struck. Since the sinking of the Lusitania as placing a sign high at a dangerous intersection is this mentality of "if it is not broke do not fix it." The idea of doing something before it is needed just does not seem to exist in the American psyche. The idea of future wars or military actions or projects of proper border controls, the economy, education, safety roads (whatever) will have to wait for blood to spill and then enough to get the attention of voters. Close the barn door before and not after the horse comes out seems to be just a lot of problems for Americans so sit back and wait for the next big bang. Security versus convenience.

Baby! I can understand your frustration in this matter. But take heart Americans are not alone in this kind of thinking. All Govts, with very few exceptions, hate to disrupt the population does not cost them votes because of unnecessary alerts or necessary. Or spend money on what is important. It is amazing how quickly Polititions or persons occupying Office high, they move when they are ready to approve a bill for a raise. I have known to go through 10 minutes to all parties agree. America, Australia, only know how to do things when it is dangerous for the attack is, the population outside the country. (Inside is a different matter.) Because which hitherto have other priorities. Plus the economy etc in the case of the United States are told from the cradle to the grave. U.S. is number 1. No one would to attack, especially where the front door step.To aware of an attack does not sink in. They tend to brush. Until it is too late. Once I get tend to concentrate the biggest Population.go extremes.ie. Mormons etc.freezing tapping bank accts. and all correspondence of innocent citizens.this Feliz a couple I know. (Not yet have been classified.) Enable potential terrorists or sympathizers, who should be responsible, have a very long leash, so hopefully lead to others involved.
