The Colchester Castle
Built on the ruins of the Temple of Claudius, Colchester Castle, a museum since 1860, offers visitors a vision of 2000 years of some of the most important events in the history of our country. Located next to the High Street, the castle is situated between the beautiful grounds of Park Castillo. The park itself has two levels, known as the Upper and Lower Castle Park.
The top of the park is the home of the Castillo, a fish pond, playground, mini golf, putting green, a café and the Museum Hollytrees, while the lower portion houses a boating lake, cricket ground and relaxing walks riparian. The park is well maintained and offers a cozy place to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

With daily shows, both indoor and outdoor games for children, train rides and many more activities to keep you entertained, the zoo makes for a fun and exciting day. Colchester is the perfect place to base yourself when visiting the north of Essex.
Within easy walking distance of the city will be with Dedham in the heart of Constable. This beautiful town on the River Stour on the Essex Suffolk border, attracts visitors from around the world and offers stunning coastal walks. You can even hire a rowing boat and explore the river and the landscape from a different perspective.

Also within walking distance of Colchester, but this time towards the coast, Mersea Island.
