4. Everglades

With 1.5 million acres of marshes, meadows saw grass and subtropical forests, the Everglades National Park is one of the most unusual public parks in the United States. Located at the southern tip of Florida, the park is home to 14 rare and endangered, including the American crocodile, Florida panther and West Indian manatee. Much of the park is primitive, explored only by adventurers and researchers – but visitors have ample opportunity for walking, camping and canoeing on the flat and watery park is also known as "The river of grass."

Five thousand years ago, the Everglades covering much of Florida, from Lake Okeechobee to the Gulf of Mexico.

Evidence of early Native American settlers in the Everglades dates of the 16th and 17th centuries. As Europeans landed in St. Augustine, Florida and moved to the region, other Native American tribes, most notably the Seminoles, they fled south in the inhospitable swamp. In late 1800, a robust few settlers founded the town of Flamingo, located at the tip of Florida (and the end of the Everglades swamp.)

In 1934, Congress signed a law that allowed the creation of a park in southern Florida. Initially, the park would cover 460,000 acres of federal, state and private – but over the years, land acquisition would increase its size. Today day, the Everglades is the third largest national park.

President Harry S. Truman dedicated the park in 1947 with these words: "There are peaks seeking high heaven, no mighty glaciers or wear torrents on high land. Here is land, tranquil in its quiet beauty, serving not as the source of water but as the recipient's own risk. For its natural abundance we owe the spectacular plant and animal life that distinguishes this place from all others in our country. "

In 1979, the Everglades National Park UNESCO declared World Heritage by the indigenous history of the area and its diversity of flora and fauna.

Today Everglades National Park is a protected area, however, only covers one-seventh of the area known as the Everglades. Much of the northern sections of the swamp threatened by drainage and development, and environmentalists warn that if no park areas are not protected, the world will lose an important and unique ecosystem.

5. Miami Beaches

Miami's beaches offer a great opportunity to get some exercise or simply enjoy some time in the sun! In this article, take a look some of my favorite beaches, including a couple of points below where it used to be able to avoid the tourist crowd.

South Beach is a typical experience, Miami Beach. It is the place to see and be seen and show the product of months in the gym. South Beach is not clothing optional, but topless bathing is allowed. My husband loves to run in paved jogging track that runs along South Beach. The beach is located on Ocean Drive, across the street from many of the famous nightclubs of Miami Beach.

Virginia Key Beach is a of the most interesting beaches in South Florida. It is located off the Rickenbacker Causeway (to both the north and south sides), near the Miami Seaquarium. Its location makes it easily access and some areas are filled, but there are plenty of remote places (like the one shown in the photo) if you are willing to explore a bit. Do not be surprised if you see me when you visit. I like to take my black Labrador for a walk / swim area at the only beach that allows dogs on leashes.

Haulover Beach, located in Miami Beach between Sunny Isles Beach and Bal Harbour, is known worldwide as Miami's only legal "clothing optional" nudist beach. If you are skittish about shedding his suit bathroom, do not worry. The beach has traditional sunbathing and nude beach and is clearly marked to avoid accidents! Haulover Beach is a fantastic place surfing.

Bill Baggs State Park, located at the southern tip of Key Biscayne is home to the famous lighthouse at Cape Florida. The park provides sunbathing, swimming and history the same place! You can spend some time at the beach and enjoy a guided tour of the lighthouse. Fishing is also permitted from the pier. The park also contains Navigation, and Grill, a full service restaurant.

Homestead Bayfront Park is a great choice if you're looking to avoid the tourist scene. Located in southern part of Miami Dade, the Bayfront Park offers swimming and boating options with a full-service marina. It is located at 9698 SW North Canal Drive.

6. Miami Science Museum

Miami Science Museum offers children and adults an entertaining and educational experience. It is a great place to visit if you're on vacation, a trip Study of the school or a weekend family outing.

The Museum is located at 3280 South Miami Avenue, just north of Coconut Grove. From the north, take I-95 to Exit 1A. After exiting, stay in right lane and follow signs to the museum. From the south take U.S. 1 north and turn right just before the I-95.

9. Monkey Jungle Park and Research Center

"When humans are caged and monkeys Run Wild "- is more than a slogan. Monkey Jungle in southern Miami-Dade County is a unique park. While the homo sapiens walk through carefully constructed wire pathways, many species of primates scamper above your head, swing through trees and interact with each other ways difficult to observe in captivity. Monkey Jungle was started in 1935 when Joseph DuMonds and his wife brought the first six monkeys in this land of 10 acres to see them living in their natural habitat. He chose Florida because of its climate and ecology are very similar to his birthplace, South East Asia. When he began to let visitors interested in the park, he knew he could never cage of monkeys. If humans wanted to come, should be the ones in cages! Today, the 30-acre Monkey Jungle is still owned and operated by the son of Joseph DuMonds' Frank. Research and observation of these monkeys in the open air has led to some definitive works on primate behavior.

The park is well organized three events, highlighting each of the major areas of the park-the wild monkey swimming pool, orangutans, and the Amazon Jungle. The forest was at its height in the years nineties. With the foliage and weather, what really caught low clouds and made its own weather systems with daily rainfall enough to be a real forest. Hurricane Andrew destroyed, and though he is making a comeback, you still have time to go before it is as splendid as it was.

One of the activities more fun at Monkey Jungle is feeding the monkeys. You can buy peanuts and tree nuts at the entrance and leave treats for the monkeys in hanging baskets. They never find away, and keep an eagle eye on the baskets as soon as food is deposited, are more, pull the basket up to the cage ceiling, and start with sweets. But beware, a hungry monkey almost dropped a basket on his head as he walked by!

10. Castle Coral

Coral Castle is a marvel of engineering that consists of more than 1,100 tons of carved coral stone located in Homestead, Florida. If you are traveling from Miami to the Keys, it's worth the stop. Coral Castle, also known as Puerta de Rock, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Ed Leedskalnin built Coral Castle, with his own hands during a period of almost 30 years in the 1950s. He refused to allow anyone to view the work, giving rise to speculation that the castle was built through the use of paranormal powers.

Visiting the castle is a wonderful experience. You really can not understand the engineering marvel of achievement of Ed until you see large pieces of coral rock with his own eyes. Visitors can take an audio tour of 30 minutes, are offered in English, Spanish, French or German.

Coral Castle is located on Highway 28 655 South Dixie in Homestead. It is at the intersection of SW 157th Avenue and U.S. 1. Detailed driving directions are available on the website of Coral Castle.
