The spirit of true competition in horse racing

The next year, Lewis Hamilton could be the first athlete in history to win more than one billion dollars as perhaps the best formula one driver in the world. However, this year the title of best jockey in horse race United Kingdom was shared by two men, and did not receive a penny in recognition. So what drives a jockey to win the jockey championship?

The answer is simple – PRIDE

In taking the Open Golf Championship this year Padraig Harrington pocketed GBP750, 000. Not bad for four days of work. Roger Federer had to put in the effort a little more to claim the Wimbledon men's title in its entirety, in fact, two weeks. But he was rewarded with a check for GBP700, 000.

Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders shared the title of Champion Jockey, both have scored the same number of wins during the season. However, the reward for success sponsor was £ 10 per win (around GBP2, 000) which was donated to charity at all.

The horse racing season UK has Plana duration of eight months and ends in mid November. Between them, Jamie Spencer and Seb Sanders scored higher than 2,000 games. That's an average of more than four trips each day for eight months. Take the day off 'occasional' days when the injury placed on the margin, and days due to suspension, and it is clear the amount of dedication required of a jockey to win the title.

But it goes much deeper than riding in a lot of races. Daily life a horse racing jockey is very tiring. We often hear about a class riders such as Frankie Dettori, Mick Kinane, and Kieron Fallon, flying all over the world to compete in some of the richest horse races on the planet. This glamorous picture of life in the chair is only one side of the coin.

On the other side has Spencer and Sanders jockeys, plus many, many more who make their living steering thoroughbreds around the race courses in the UK.

One day typical for a rider will start at first light with riding work on the training gallops. Then it is off to the race course to be staging a meeting that day. And in the United Kingdom that meeting could be anywhere in Exeter and Bath in the south, to Perth and Musselburgh in Scotland.

Today days horse racing tales place almost every day of the year, with very few exceptions. tracks of all-weather, lighted runs also mean night. It is not uncommon for a rider to compete in the lawn during the afternoon, then dash to the highway to an evening meeting at Wolverhampton artificial surfaces or Kempton. Often the last race of the night could be as late as 9:30 pm. Then, riders must weigh-in, and attend presentations on success, before changing his riding silks and make your way home. It is not uncommon for a rider who comes back home in the early hours of the morning, and set the alarm clock for 6 am to start all over again.

Approaching the climax of the season, a particular day, Jamie Spencer drove from his home in Newmarket to London for a hearing The Jockey Club, then flew to Scotland for racing at Musselburgh, then back to Wolverhampton for the evening meeting which ended the career from 9:20 pm, before finally returning to Newmarket. A round trip of 900 miles. A few riders have the luxury of drivers and private flights paid for by the owners. But most riders have to make do with what the car-sharing and endless miles up and down the highway.

And then there is the challenge of the jockeys' diet. Everybody knows that jockeys have to maintain feather-weight ratios. They do this by surviving on a poor diet of boiled fish or chicken, and a few cups of tea without milk.

The biggest danger of following a restrictive diet in pursuit of success, is to de-hydration. In an attempt to avoid taking extra weight, a jockey will drink less, especially during the course of an evening of race day. And if you have to lose a few pounds will sit in a sauna and weight sweat. The effect of dehydration may be the loss of concentration and even fainting.

People may think that riding a race horse is little more than what goes in the right direction and kicking him in the belly so that he goes. Nothing could be further from the truth. thoroughbred horses very nervous need little encouragement to run at full speed, and most, in fact, require restrictions during the first part of a race. It takes a lot strength and power to control animal half a ton of muscle travel at 30 miles per hour. Similarly, physical effort is required to drive a horse out of the line in a close final. All this on boiled chicken and tea!

Returning to the original question, of why jockeys will put themselves through this arduous routine?

"It's all about the prestige that comes with claiming the title. "Explains British Horse Racing Authority spokesman Lucy Watson.

The names on the Trophy include many of the great Racing – names such as Gordon Richards, Lester Piggott, Willie Carson, Pat Eddery Kieron Fallon and Frankie Dettori. To have your name engraved alongside their 'heroes' is what that drives people like Sanders and Spencer.

The top riders are paid for each trip – a rate of £ 125.94 from the owner. In addition, usually receive 10 percent of any cash prizes. Jamie Spencer profits in excess GBP2million his name this season and will earn around GBP200, 000 through prize money alone. But then Spencer is Champion Jockey and trainers and owners alike all clamor to book him to ride their horses. He concludes that it is difficult get rides on the best horses. It is something of an upward spiral self-perpetuating. If you're good, you get to ride horses with the best chance win, and win more races.

But as you can imagine, works in reverse too. Spare a thought for the other jockeys that make up the numbers in every race. They often have to take all the attractions that can, on horseback are not likely to earn in courses throughout the country, and bear all travel expenses inherent. All in the spirit of this great sport of Kings.
