What is a good small dog breeds?

I am looking for a small non-shedding dog that has good performance characteristics and play well with other dogs. I am looking at the west highland terrier, but I know that this breed tends to dig and bark a lot. What are the other breeds of dog that fit these criteria: small, did not disappear, and requires little or adequate exercise, does not bark or dig a lot, is a good companion dog, obedient, and interacts well with other dogs. And please do not suggest anything about chihuahua haha. Thank you! exercise requirement is flexible, but I'm not looking for a dog that needs to be exercised more an hour a day.
