Building your own shed: 6 Tips for a successful project
One of the few good things going through tough economic times is to know that you are more capable than they thought to do, learn and build things ourselves. One of the most common DIY projects of origin is the construction of a shed outside. Homeowners like having a unit for storing tools and equipment. A shed is typically a one-room structure with a cement floor, a door, and possibly a window. You can look at a shed and think, "Why I can not build something?"
The truth is, most likely you can build a shed. Now, prefabricated shed kits are available, but honestly, if you have enough money for one of them, probably could get a low joint cost wood shed plans, purchase materials and hire a contractor to put together for you. Take one more step: get wood shed plans, buying materials, and put the ship together for yourself, and you can not only get a custom unit, you can save a lot of money on the cost of prefabricated kits and the contractor built sheds. Here are 6 tips to build your own ship.
1. Get great bargains.
Without a good set of plans will be difficult or impossible to build a wooden shed of quality that will feel comfortable storing your valuable tools and equipment in. Fortunately, thanks to the Internet, it's easy to find free shed plans. You can find free shed plans for almost any size and style of shed you can imagine. There are also plenty of free plans for other types dependencies that could function as a shed for your needs. Poultry, for example, less entry boxes, you can make nice throws, small for simple storage of bicycles, lawnmowers and trucks that do not require much vertical height.
2. Carefully place your shed.
Ideally, you should have at least two or three feet from the perimeter of your shed and any trees, fences or walls to allow proper airflow and help prevent moisture problems. Over time, excess moisture can warp the floors and doors and hinges to corrode. To ensure proper air circulation, the member lowest wood should be at least 6 inches above the ground to allow air circulation under the shed too. Another advantage of the two or three foot margin all sides of the sheds is that it will be easier for you to access when you need repairs or paint.
3. Buy materials high quality.
Use pressure-treated materials to build your shed foundation. The foundation and the roof should account for the lion's share cost of materials because they will have the beating over the years. While it is well to save on some things – like having your plans to throw open – you should not skimp on building materials for the floor frame, floor covering plywood, or ceiling.
4. Take your time to make a good base.
To throw a backyard, a base built right into the ground enough. You should not have to pour concrete footings and piers. Use pressure-treated wood or concrete solid blocks. A skid base is the most common type of foundation used in this type of project. Use pressure-treated materials. The basic concept is simple: two parallel long, straight wood, skates or placed, at equal distances. The floor frame is built on the skates.
Skid foundations are easy to build, and are usually made of pressure treated 4x6s, 6x6s, 8x8s. Best to put the skids on a bed of gravel. If you use a gravel bed, compact with a hand tamper or plate compactor gas before putting the skates.
5. Build time into your schedule.
Type "bounce" time in your schedule the same way that doctor's appointment. His greatest enemy DIY shed building is not lack of skill or ability, but lack so the time in your schedule to work in his shed. If this is a few days off work locked, blocked or a few hours for several weeks does not matter as long as you stick with it.
6. Waterproof to protect your investment.
To keep your backyard shed look great and to avoid last time, the use of wood finishing product such as paint stains, outdoors, or sealant. These products protect the wood from water, sun and insect damage. Wood sealer blocks the pores of the wood, but allows the wood to weather and fade naturally. Stain penetrates the wood, but do not trap moisture and therefore will not blister or peel. Mancha will need to reapply every two years. exterior paint protects the wood and comes in any color you want. Your cellar must be sanded and prepared prior to application.
Stains and sealers can be applied with a spray gun, pad, brush or roller. Use two layers to ensure maximum protection for your shed.
Building a backyard shed can be an exercise of self-sufficiency, and can be done quite cheaply if you start by obtaining your free shed plans , purchase materials, and do the same construction. Wood shed plans are available in the design of countless suit every need and taste. And if you can find your way around a lumberyard and hardware store and follow the wooden throwing plans, you can create something useful to it proudly.
