The first rule of thumb in the room dramas, most writing coaches say, is to avoid the cut scenes. They tend to make the static and limiting action drama can be best explained through Playgrounds and flashbacks that re-late to witness. But this mini CBS is in the expert hands of the writer Lawrence Schiller and Norman Mailer to manage development this story with an impeccable eye for detail and style of a nuanced drama. Very
enhanced by Christopher Plummer Emmy worthy turn as F. Lee Bailey, American tragedy is almost as good as television gets in to tell a story where the public already knows the ins, outs and outcome.
To some extent, the trial OJ Simpson rewrote the book on how to set a weight drama in the courtroom and in their wake have been a series of shows very well received and films that are based on new discoveries of patience and, pos-sibly, an understanding of the law. Court dramas, especially the television series "Law & Order "and" The Practice "and the movie" The Insider, Erin Brockovich and A Civil Ac-tion "are of a tone quite different from their
predecessors. "American Tragedy" follows a story arc not unlike that of "A Civil Action."
Subtext This tragedy is the battle of wits and I as a lawyer Johnnie Cochran (Ving Rhames) and Robert Shapiro (Ron Silver) grandstanders desire to move towards advertising, hungry for positions of power in social circumstances and legal-ass. Shapiro starts strong and fades into the background as the story from planning to implementation; Cochran grows from an innocent, aw-shells in a media-savvy killer, suggesting Shapiro gave a scenario to become a star.
Schiller is only as director of scripts based on his books, most recently was the saga of JonBenet Ramsey "A Perfect Murder, Perfect Town." In "American Tragedy" taking a part to dissect the defensive legal strategy from the first phone call placed to tour Shapiro jurors of Simpson's Brentwood-tate. The second part begins with the LA police detective Mark Fuhrman taking the stand and ends with the real mouthing Simpson
"Thank you" to the jury that is standing between fiction and overlapping Cochran Barry Scheck (Bruno Kirby).
Mini shed little light on everything that could not have been known before, although viewers certainly have their own memories to support for judging the program correctness. When, for example, Cochran placed a cap of wool or families of Nicole Brown or Kato Kaelin? actual footage of the father of murdered Ron Goldman recalls that two people were killed, but the barrage of media Goldman and the Browns that echoed through Los Angeles seems, at best, to be the background noise of these lawyers' lives.
Reviews of Simpson are obscured by scenery or darkness, but their presence is constantly felt through the speakerphone. He advises his lawyers about his conduct, tactics and even his diction, but above all, he exclaims "I did not" over and over and over again.
The trial veritable "dream team" brought this legal to U.S. homes United for so long that the traits of the actors and physical work against them. Fully Plummer enve lopes Bailey determination and pride-swallowing has to do their tac-tics and advice are shot down by two other great cheeses. As a DNA expert Barry Scheck, Kirby benefits of a reasonably close resemblance Kirby and style squirrel natural quality.
The two drivers are problematic, however. Rhames is much greater than the lean Cochran, and their presence is much more in-your-face Cochran intimidating than the real life every time it seemed to be. Cochran, from most accounts, was smooth and calculated. In "American Tragedy", is driven by anger and blind ambition.
Silver's Shapiro is familiar representation eerily similar to the way he played Alan Dershowitz in the picture "Reversal of Fortune "and the late concert promoter Bill Graham in the solo show" Bill Graham Presents. "pomposity and is responsible for tortuosity as well – enough to make one wonder whether their interpretation Shapiro is not the most dead-on.
Clyde Kusatsu Judge Ito does a fine and admirably Darryl Alan Reed leverages the thankless role of attorney Carl Douglas played during the trial. Robert LuPone is limited by the way Bob Kardashian is written – as a rude self, man – and Ruben Santiago-Hudson has to be prosecutor Chris Darden as the enemy of all. Diana Lamar Marcia Clark is effective but limited.
Technically, the picture is very strong Schiller as the address is clean and in tip. Editing Peter Zinner and Katina is perfect, quickly moving the ac-tion on the first night and the improvement of the fall of the various relationships in the second. A well done aspect is the union of the new material with real questioning of witnesses as Fuhrman.
Mini makes extensive use of the city LA Westside and local restau-rants of the law offices to homes. Everything is as real as a trip at 45 mph in the San Diego Freeway.
