General Motor Units Australia confirmed to export Pontiac G-8 to U.S.
Pontiac has finally unveiled its big sedan, rear-drive flagship G-8 is expected to pass the showrooms next January. Will be offered at a price less than $ 30,000. The G-8 is said to be a unique product unlike anything else that General Motors has sold. But of course, according to the company's commitment to the quality of the G-8 is equipped with nothing more than best auto parts for the world number one can offer, such as his famous GM oxygen sensor.
The G-8 was deliberately created so as not to duplicate other GM models. This is because similar models tend to steal sales from each other rather than rivals. By GM, Bob Lutz, Vice President, "We want to focus heavily on sports sedans and Pontiac line box to interact with the 7-series BMW 5 series, 3 series and series 1. Just so happened that we started with 7, "pointing to the G-8.
He added that Pontiac is supposed to rear-wheel-drive, but unfortunately that probably will not happen since front-wheel drive is much better to preserve the passenger space in small vehicles.
The G-8 is based on a large rear-drive chassis developed by none other than GM's Australian subsidiary brand, Holden-famous for big cars, fast and rear-wheel drive. Holden commissioned to produce the Pontiac GTO chassis and is also the source of the bases for the Chevrolet Camaro.
The Pontiac G-8 is offered in two versions: the G-8 3.6 liters V6 rated 261 horsepower, 250 lb-ft of torque and five-speed automatic transmission, G-8 GT with Corvette-derived 6-liter V8 rated 362 hp, 391 lb-ft of torque and an automatic transmission, six-speed manual or new six-speed design.
The G-8 have a size of size of about 196 inches long, 75 inches wide on a wheelbase of 115 inches.
More News on GM's Holden brand
In Melbourne: General Motors Corp. 'S unit has recently confirmed that Australia will export its VE Commodore SS model, renamed the Pontiac G-8 to the U.S. from 2008.
Production of the G-8 will begin at the Holden plant in Elizabeth, the state of South Australia in late 2007, according to GM Holden Chairman Denny Mooney said in an interview with journalists in Melbourne. G-8 also sports new features such as a new nose, grille and bonnet.
The export order will help to continue working Holden plant in Elizabeth to the north of Australia which have already shed about 1,400 jobs and reduce workers' shifts to two by the fall in demand their vehicles due to rising fuel prices and demand for small, fuel-efficient cars.
"We need this type of volume to keep our plant running at capacity, and said frankly if your plant is not running capacity, we then financially to have difficulties, "Mooney. He refused to comment on the value of export supply and the number of Pontiac to be exported to the U.S..
But said exports have the potential to overcome more than 30,000 Commodores Holden ships to the Middle East every year, where rebadged and sold as a Chevrolet.
