I've been interested in aerospace engineering, but I'm also thinking about a career in journalism. What should I do, too?

I'm sophomore in high school and have been interested in aerospace engineering for nearly two years due to my interest in airplanes and my life in Wichita. Recently, however I have taken classes in Journalism and am in the school newspaper. Since starting this I've had more fun than any other school activity. I know there significant wage gap, but do not know what I choose. In that sense, what colleges I will participate, for if I live in Kansas. For KU and engineering Wichita State both have engineering programs, but do not know where to go around here for Journalism. Someone please shed some light on my problems!

That's a difficult question. University of Kansas has a very good journalism school. Here's the link: I went to http://www.journalism.ku.edu/news/ University of Missouri, which has one of the journalism schools in the country. That's still close, but would be out of state. I would say that to pursue the lines whenever possible. It will be easier, career planning-wise, if you're still hesitant to pursue a career in engineering, but taking journalism courses as electives. In addition there will be other opportunities, if you have time to work on the school newspaper, or to freelance for other papers. Frankly, if you have some skills and interest in journalism, which is much easier to move from another field in which journalism is to move from journalism in engineering. In addition, you might even want to combine the two interests. There are plenty of opportunities in aerospace for journalists and media types. When I was a kid (a long, long time ago), my next door neighbor was the editor with the Machinists Union (the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers). That was in the decade 1960, and the opportunities have become much more abundant since then. Therefore: Continue on both tracks. If you must make a decision, I suggest you go into engineering aerospace, but adding that journalism all it can to the mix. Meanwhile, the school is its guidance counselor can help optimize school choices institutions that are strong in both areas. Hope that helps.
